Da Bush Babees - Ambushed (1994)

Its VERY rare that a group actually gets better by the album; making their sophomore LPs better than their freshmen offerings. Such is the case with The Roots, The Fugees, and the immortal Bush Babees. The second album, Gravity, is really quite dope, and features a young Mos Def and some gully backpacker jams. This one however, sucks. It may have something to do with the strong presence of Jermaine Dupree, who acts as both producer and executive producer. And the cover is also unfortunate...

From Wikipedia: Ambushed is the first album from hip hop group Da Bush Babees, with members Mr. Man, Babe-B-Face Kaos and Y-Tee. The group is famous for its affiliation with the Native Tongues. The album featured guest production from A Tribe Called Quest's Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Salaam Remi, and a young Jermaine Dupri. The album's singles, "We Run Things (It's Like Dat)" and "Remember We," received moderate airplay.

Havoc & Prodeje - Career (the whole time)

I swear, these cats went into the future and jacked Mobb Deep names. Even if they're tight (I have no clue), they still did that.

Allmusic:

Biography
As the key members of pioneering early-'90s West Coast gangsta group South Central Cartel, Havoc & Prodeje broke away and recorded some equally notable albums as a duo throughout the '90s, beginning with 1993's Livin' in a Crime Wave. Next came Kickin' Game in early 1995, also released on Quality Records, followed by Truez Neva Stopin 1997. Unfortunately, the duo's career never rivaled South Central Cartel's.

Look at this bullshit bittin ass frappacino. If Mcdonald and Starbuck were rappers, shit would be even gayer.

Chick Corea - The Leprechaun

Chick is one of my favorites, and I always came close to buying this one - but never did, on account of the amazingly gay cover. Gayness abounds.

Not Redman - Deadly and Dangerous (1998)

In the back of The Source for like seven years. Guest list was whoa including Redman. Remember seeing it ONCE, listening and being underwhelmed. Don't remember much, could even be tight, but still....Even though I think it technically dropped, it effectively never dropped.

TOUR BUSTS

A look back at some of the more memorable tour bus smoke outs that turned sour.

1. LIL WAYNE

“Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., was arrested January 23, 2008 southwestern Arizona on suspicion of possessing cocaine and ecstasy, as well as drug paraphernalia, authorities said. He was being held in Yuma County Jail on a $10,185 bond. Border patrol agents stopped the bus at about 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday after a dog alerted them to possible drugs on board, a further inspection found 105 grams (3.7 ounces) of marijuana, 29 grams (1 ounce) of cocaine, 41 grams (1.45 ounces) of ecstasy and more than $22,000, agents said.”

2. FABOLOUS

“Arkansas police pulled over the rapper’s tour bus February 22, 2009 for a traffic violation and seized nearly 500 lbs of pot, as well as almost $6,500 in cash. Fabolous was not on the bus at the time, but two men, Edward Thimas, 52, and Robert Morris, 44, were arrested.”

3. WU-TANG

“West Memphis police busted eight members of Wu-Tang’s Clan’s entourage on November 10, 2009 during a traffic stop for speeding. DJ Mathematics and Streetlife were among those arrested. The Drug Task Force seized 18 bags of weed, 110 Ecstasy pills and $8,615 on the smoked-out tour bus.”

4. YOUNGBLOODZ

“Rap duo Youngbloodz were arrested on Thursday June 1, 2006 and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of firearms, after police found a half pound of marijuana hidden throughout their tour bus, as well as two guns.Group members J-Bo, born Jeffrey Grigsby and Sean Paul Joseph were arrested after police pulled their tour bus over on I-85 in Coweta County, GA as the group was en route to a performance at a club in Columbus.Police pulled the tour bus over, after noticing the bus’ Florida license plates had expired. When the officer approached the bus, a strong marijuana odor was detected and back up units were called to the scene.A search of the bus turned up 11 plastic baggies containing the drugs, while a Glock .40 and a Taurus .45 were found under two mattresses on the bus.

5. BIRDMAN

“On November 27, 2007, Baby’s Tour Bus got pulled over for an illegal lane change. When cops searched the bus, they found over an ounce and a a half of high-grade chronic, which got all 16 members of the bus arrested.”

6. NATE DOGG

“Rapper Nate Dogg was arrested on April 18, 2002 after police stopped his tour bus for speeding and searched it after smelling marijuana. They found marijuana and two pistols, one that had been reported stolen. Dogg later pleaded guilty to the drug possession and all other charges were dropped. He received a fine of $4,400, one year probation, 24 hours of community service and eight hours of drug treatment. This was not his first brush with the law.”

Solar Denies He Was Romantically Involved With Guru; Dimisses Criticism

RIP Guru, God bless, you are truly a part of life. But Solar- not to be confused with the quite gully French go-getter MC Solaar- is the epitome of barely bin.

(AllHipHop News) Producer Solar has addressed the intense criticism directed at him shortly after the passing of revered Gang Starr Rapper Guru, who died on Monday (April 19th) from cancer.

Solar, who was Guru’s partner in his recording venture 7 Grand Records, has come under scrutiny over a series of press releases allegedly penned by Guru shortly before his death.

In each release, Guru repeatedly snubbed Gang Starr co-founder DJ Premier, referring to the producer as his “ex-DJ,” while showering attention on Solar and his increased role handling Guru’s personal affairs.

Solar told MTV that his relationship with Guru started in 2002, when the pair met through a mutual friend.

“Me and him just hit it off as men. I got to know him as a man, he got to know me as a man. We were both going through tricky periods in our lives,” Solar told MTV News. “I was working with homeless children at the time. It's a heavy problem ... Guru was dealing with certain situations. We started hanging out, hitting the clubs in New York. We needed to lighten it up a little bit.”

Solar admitted that Guru battled substance abuse, using weed, liquor and other drugs, although Guru had been sober since 2003.

In 2009, Guru found out he had cancer after developing a consistent pain in his back. An MRI revealed that Guru, born Keith Elam, had cancer, leaving him “upset and distraught.”

Guru underwent surgery in July of 2009, but according to Solar, the operation and the ensuing chemotherapy proved unsuccessful.

Although medicated, Guru continued to tour and withheld the information from family members, even as the cancer spread throughout his body, as he was optimistic he could beat the disease.

Solar shot down reports that he was taking advantage of Guru while he was sick or weak and also denied reports spreading that he and Guru may have been romantically linked.

“He knew exactly what he wanted to do, not only his business but his personal life…I don't want to say anything against anybody living a certain type of lifestyle — everybody is free to live their life how they choose to live it — but that's not my lifestyle or Guru's lifestyle. We're straight men. He dealt with women and family. I dealt with women and family. There's never been any blurring of the lines whatsoever."

I'm pretty sure I'm not.

Sick compact disc logo, thanks for keeping me in the loop.

Chill Evans, as in chill, Evans, & change your fuckin name

No relation to the other Bill Evans, this saxophonist has an adventurous spirit and strong improvising skills despite his utilization of a rapper on some records.

MC Shan - "Play It Again Shan" (1990)

This looks like the invitation to an 8th grade piano recital, minus the 8th graders. With the exception of a couple burners, this album is far gayer than it looks.

See Also: Any album by Father MC.

Again. Purely based on a visual basis. But it certainly looks gay.

Yvon Mondesir & First Class - Computer (1987)

Really Yvon? That was the sickest cover u could do in 87? Cmon dog, there's way sicker wack covers than that. In any case the album is actually kinda raw. Its also gay as hell. Go figure. Such are the 80s.

Lil 1/2 Dead - Steel On a Mission (1996)

Why was this everywhere but no one ever bought it? I thought they shipped that stuff back after a year or somethin. I remember seein this on Vinyl at Best Buy in like 99. Leftovers like whoa, cuz there was no "revival" shit poppin like it is now where u can cop records like that. Its prob a str8 record but I mean dude, u weren't lookin good on them used and clearance shelves, next to Kriss Kross' other albums, Mistachuck, numerous Bass compilations, etc.

Ice Cube wants his titles back dude.

Insomnia: Erick Sermon Compilation (1996)

"Another case of: this could very well be a good album, but the years and years and years of seeing it on the used shelves has branded it in my mind as some wack shit. I used to see this in like 7th grade on the shelves next to the Erick Sermon solo album from that era - another one I pondered posting."
